The Sunstone Engineering Story

Sunstone Engineering was started in 2003 by Dr. Astle Ph.D. As a graduate student completing his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan, Dr. Astle needed a micro welder for a critical project he was finishing. He researched the marketplace to find a welding solution that would meet the needs of the project but also fit within a student's budget. Unfortunately the marketplace at that time did not provide an affordable solution, so Dr. Astle applied the welding principles he understood and designed his own welder. He was able to finish his project, but more importantly Dr. Astle realized that there was a need in the marketplace to provide affordable welding solutions that were superior quality, high-tech and versatile enough for a variety of applications. These foundational values can be experienced in every Sunstone Engineering product.

Today Dr. Astle is leading his team of innovative engineers to design welding technologies used for a variety of applications. Our extensive micro-welding product lines include: Capacitive Discharge, AC, Pulse-Arc, Micro TIG Welding, Weld Head and Micro Weld Head technologies. Sunstone Engineering's products are used by organizations of any size, from start-up operations to prestigious fortune 500 companies ranging from Apple Computers, NASA, MIT, GE, HP, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, to multiple international government and military agencies, educational institutions and others.
